New paper shows how the impacts of spatially distributed, nature-based runoff attenuation features can be assessed within a hydrological model. A test case in North Yorkshire illustrates the potential for reductions in peak flows downstream, and offers some insights about this kind of “natural flood management” (NFM) strategy at whole-catchment scale.
PhD researcher Peter Metcalfe, based at Lancaster University’s Environment Centre (LEC), has been working on new methods to predict the impacts of “natural” measures to mitigate flood risk.
Predicting the unpredictable Dr Ross Towe, KTP Research Associate Over the last year, I have been working with the JBA Trust and Lancaster University as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate on a research project that aims to improve statistical models used for flood risk assessment. The KTP Associate role has given me a great insight into how the development […]
Masters student Duncan Nicholls spent a three month internship researching and mapping schemes which use natural processes to reduce flood risk across Great Britain.
JBA Trust supports contributions to three papers published in the proceedings of the FLOODrisk2016 international conference, held in Lyon, France.
