Hydraulic flumes and wave tank in action for Science Week!

JBA Trust was invited to demonstrate the hydraulic flume and the wave tank to students at Beacon Hill School on 10 July 2017 as part of the school’s Science Week.  The school is part of the North Tyneside Learning Trust and is for young people with severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties aged two to nineteen.

The Executive Chairman of JBA Group, Jeremy Benn, and Dorian Latham, JBA Consulting’s Environment Services Technical Director who’s son Francis is a Year 7 student at the school, presented the demonstration on a very wet afternoon to several year groups.

The students raced ducks, built paper boats and looked at wave patterns and overtopping of the ‘coastal defences’ very much like the beach at Whitley Bay, not too far from the school.  The biggest unanswered question was where did the blue ducks come from?!

James Torbett, STEM Coordinator at Beacon Hill School, said, “It was a fantastic day and the students really enjoyed it, we’re looking forward to JBA Trust visiting again soon!”
