Making mountains in Kendal!

We enjoyed sharing our augmented reality sandbox with visitors to the Kendal Mountain Festival Basecamp on the 17-19 November 2023.

There was a steady stream of people keen to create their own mountain ranges and explore how ‘virtual’ water flows over the landscape.

The sandbox sparked lots of interesting discussions around natural flood management (NFM), climate change and risks of flooding in the Lake District and across the UK.

Craig Lucas, a JBA Trust volunteer commented:

“It was great to be at Kendal Mountain Festival and see so many visitors of all ages coming to visit the sandbox and have fun learning about water in the environment and what we can do to help manage it.”
