Supporting British Science Week activities at the National Railway Museum
Our coastal wave tank provided an interactive activity for visitors to the National Railway Museum in York on Saturday 19th March.
We ran a pop up stall demonstrating our wave tank, talking to visitors about coastal risk management and flooding and considering how railway infrastructure can be affected by coastal processes. The event was organised by the Transpennine STEM Ambassador Hub as part of British Science Week activities.
Rowan Barker from JBA Consulting volunteered to attend the event and commented:
“It was really interesting to see how visitors of all ages were engaged with the wave tank. There was also a real mix of interests, for example some visitors were learning about coastal management for the first time, while others had experienced coastal erosion near their own homes. The wave tank provided a visual and interactive tool, allowing visitors to create waves and to see the impact of various types of coastal management.”
