Modelling and estimating the clustering of floods

A case study on a six month project with Lancaster University to transfer advances in statistics to flood risk science is now available on the PURE (Probability, Uncertainty and Risk in the Environment) Knowledge Exchange Network.

The project ‘Tools and guidance for covariate analysis of flood and wave threshold exceedances’ was funded by NERC (the Natural Environment Research Council) and aimed to develop a prototype tool to help risk analysts incorporate covariate factors and improve the probability estimates of extreme flood events. The outputs of the project will help interpret and communicate risks during a period like the recent winter flooding in the UK.
