Inspiring the next generation at Peterborough STEM Festival
JBA Trust’s physical models were used to help demonstrate and explore engineering, flood risk and hydraulic concepts at Peterborough STEM Festival on Saturday 12th October.
The festival showcased the world of science, technology, engineering and maths to 5 to 18 year olds, providing lots of opportunities to learn through interactive workshops, talks, experiments and demonstrations.
JBA Consulting staff demonstrated the JBA Trust models and provided fun and engaging activities for the children to complete. They also talked about the many and varied career opportunities available within the engineering sector.
Kevin McDermott from JBA Consulting commented:
“I was amazed by the children, some had intriguing questions while others had insightful answers. It was fantastic to see children revisiting our stall, thus proving that they are genuinely passionate about STEM disciplines. Our interactive origami boat workshop and flume races encouraged all the children to engage with the activities.”
Michael Wilson from JBA Consulting added:
“It was an amazing experience to return to the Peterborough STEM Festival, there were more visitors than ever this year! It was heartwarming to see so many young people engaging with the wave tank and hydraulic flume demonstrations, asking questions and seeing if their paper boats could survive the simulated tidal surges.”
