Women in STEM

On 17 May, North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership (NYBEP) ran an interactive ‘Women in STEM’ session for year 9 students at Skipton Academy.  JBA Trust supported the event, which was part of the WISE People Like Me initiative, inspiring the next generation of women in STEM and breaking down career stereotypes.

The aim of the session was to encourage more females to study STEM subjects and to show the wide range of STEM career choices available.

Women who work in STEM roles were invited to attend the event. Katie Chorlton and Zoe Zhuang from JBA Consulting helped students to complete a practical activity and then shared their learning and career journeys to help inspire the next generation.

Katie commented, “The event was a great opportunity to open the girls’ minds to how much they can do with a STEM subject. At such a crucial time in their school lives where they have lots of decisions to make about their future paths, it felt important to get that message across. It was a very well organised, interactive, fun event, and I think everyone went away from it with a new outlook on what they could do.”
