Inspiring careers in the environment sector

On Wednesday 13th November, Skipton Girls High School held a careers fair for students interested in joining their sixth form. By speaking to businesses and universities, students had the opportunity to find out about possible careers and the types of qualifications they need to reach their career goal.

Representing JBA Trust, Hannah Kellett from JBA Risk Management and Philip Moore from JBA Consulting talked to students about careers in flood risk management, engineering, geographical information systems, heritage and archaeology. Demonstrations of the projected augmented relief model (PARM) were also provided, showing the impact of different rainfall events and flood defence scenarios in Keswick.

Hannah commented:

“The event was an excellent way of making links between education and industry, giving girls an insight in to what they could do after education and encouraging students to consider relevant subjects when choosing A level options. I enjoyed inspiring the students to consider the interesting and exciting career opportunities available to them.”
