River flumes engage and inspire at Peterborough STEM Festival

Two of our hydraulic river flumes were in action at the Peterborough STEM Festival on 13 October as part of a range of fun hands-on activities to celebrate and experience the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

A team from JBA Consulting attended the event, demonstrating the large and mini hydraulic flumes as well as exhibiting the point cloud technology (an interactive model of an asset captured in time) being used by JBA-Bentley.

Linda Mcintosh from JBA Consulting commented:

‘The event was a great success and had over 2000 visitors. It was a fun filled event, packed with a variety of exhibits that engaged all ages. Many people came back to our room as their children said that it was their favourite exhibit!’

Michael Wilson from JBA Consulting added:

‘I spent the day talking about and demonstrating the large flume, and it was great to see so many young people interested and asking questions about flooding and what we do as engineers, with a few rubber duck races sandwiched in between. Given the popularity of our stand at this event, and the Engineering for the Future event back in June, we hope to continue our STEM work in the local area.’
