Improving fish pass design with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and behavioural models of eel movement

Improving fish pass design with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and behavioural models of eel movement

Tom Padgett recently published results from his PhD research in the Royal Society Open Science Journal. Tom used the flexibility of computational modelling to test different eel tiles under several different conditions and eel life stages. Overall, passage efficiency decreases with increasing flow and steeper installation angles; it increases as elvers get larger, and older.

New paper: Geomorphological effectiveness of floods to rework gravel bars: insight from hyperscale topography and hydraulic modelling

New paper: Geomorphological effectiveness of floods to rework gravel bars: insight from hyperscale topography and hydraulic modelling

A new paper by Reid et al., supported by the JBA Trust, explores how a 2D flow model can be useful in understanding the evolution of bars in a high energy gravel-bed river.
